Ingredients

  • 8 dried red dates (jujube) rinsed and sliced open, pits removed
  • 8 dried longan shelled, or 2 tbsp dried longan flesh
  • 2 thin slices fresh ginger optional
  • 5 cups water
  • 2 tbsp dried goji berries rinsed
  • 8-10 dried chrysanthemum flowers rinsed
  • 1-2 tsp pure maple syrup optional

Method

  1. Rinse the red dates, longan, goji berries and chrysanthemum flowers in a strainer under cool water.
  2. Add the red dates, longan, ginger and water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer gently for 15 minutes.
  3. Turn off the heat. Add the goji berries and chrysanthemum flowers, cover and steep for 5 minutes.
  4. Taste and stir in maple syrup only if you want it sweeter. Ladle into mugs with some of the fruit in each cup.

Notes

Find the dried ingredients at an Asian grocery store. Slice or tear the red dates so they release their sweetness.
